Rehearsal Photos Released for The Lady from the Sea at the Bridge Theatre

London Theatre Company has released the first rehearsal room photos for The Lady from the Sea, written and directed by Simon Stone after Henrik Ibsen.

The production stars Academy Award-winner Alicia Vikander as Ellida and Andrew Lincoln as Edward. Rehearsals are now underway in London ahead of the show’s opening at the Bridge Theatre.

Over 3,000 front row seats have been released for the run, priced between £29.50 and £35. A specific allocation has been reserved for Access and Young Bridge members.

The Lady from the Sea begins previews on Wednesday 10 September and officially opens on Thursday 18 September. The strictly limited nine-week run concludes on Saturday 8 November 2025.

Joining Vikander and Lincoln in the cast are Isobel Akuwudike as Hilda, Joe Alwyn as Heath, Brendan Cowell as Finn Marcet, John Macmillan as Lyle, and Gracie Oddie-James as Asa.

Understudies include Daniel Gregory (covering Lyle & Heath), Sarah Moss (covering Ellida), Sadhbha Odufuwa-Bolger (covering Asa & Hilda), and Nathan Wiley (covering Edward & Finn).

The Lady from the Sea is described as “Henrik Ibsen’s most radically modern portrayal of a woman’s fight for autonomy in her relationship.” The play explores themes of desire, loss, and rebirth in a contemporary setting.

Fearful she may have settled too easily for a comfortable life married to a well-off doctor, Ellida searches for a way to break the predictable routine her existence has become. When a lover from her past appears at their remote country house, she must choose between the life she has now built and the one she left behind long ago.

Simon Stone, known for his radical reimaginings of classic works such as Yerma and Phaedra, makes his Bridge Theatre debut with this production.
