Steelers to Sign Perfect DK Metcalf Partner to Bolster WR Room

The Pittsburgh Steelers are ensuring the roster will be in top shape by the time the regular season rolls around. After acquiring DK Metcalf in the offseason, there have been questions regarding the rest of the room.

Calvin Austin III should take another step, but the Steelers need another true WR2 to complement both Metcalf and Austin. Now, the team has made a big move, acquiring a former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars star.

According to The Athletic’s Mike DeFabo, Gabe Davis is set to sign with the Steelers on Tuesday. The team brought him in for a workout over the summer and is now moving forward with a deal.

Davis adds a big veteran presence to the young wide receiver room and should immediately slot in as WR2 or WR3 alongside Metcalf and Austin.

Davis experienced a down season due to recovering from a torn meniscus; he suffered in the 2024 season. He was then released by the Jaguars due to the team being worried about his recovery.

The former Jaguars receiver has put up a career of 2,969 yards and 29 touchdowns. He posted a career-high 836 yards in 2022, along with seven touchdowns.

Davis can be the right kind of red zone weapon for Aaron Rodgers and should help to open the pass game even more. With one more preseason game left to play, it would be believed that Davis might be getting some valuable reps to build chemistry with Rodgers and the offense.

Steelers general manager Omar Khan has been busy ensuring that Rodgers has enough offensive firepower to get the ball to, including bringing in former Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith, and now Davis.

Rodgers was signed in the offseason, after taking his time deciding what his NFL future would be. He also revealed that the 2025 season would presumably be his last, so expect the future Hall of Famer to leave everything out on the field.

It appears as though the Steelers are in “win-now” mode, as the team has been busy acquiring star players through free agency and the draft. Expectations are high, and it appears that the team is serious about winning.

Davis might not be the final player acquisition for the team, but he is one who could be a sneaky good decision.
