The round of 16 of the WTA Monterrey is upon us, and LWOS is back with more best bets. I was on a break due to family issues, but I’m now back at it and ready to deliver the goods. Here are my choices for three of the round of 16 matches. Please share your thoughts in the comments.
WTA Monterrey Open
Bouzkova – Haddad Maia: Time 01:00
H2H: 1-4
Marie Bouzkova had not had any success against Beatriz Haddad Maia prior to their 2025 match in Rome. To everyone’s surprise, Bouzkova took down Haddad Maia in straight sets in the second round. It was her first victory in five attempts. Bouzkova and Haddad Maia also have a previous quarterfinal match here in Monterrey back in 2022. Haddad Maia needed all three sets and a tiebreak in the third set to defeat her, so Bouzkova is going to have that match to not only watch and learn from, but also as a driving motivation.
Best Bet to Make
Bouzkova is the favorite in this match, and I think it’s for good reason. Bouzkova is a stunning 8-2 in her last ten matches, whereas Haddad Maia has four total wins in her last ten matches and is currently on a three-match losing streak. Bouzkova is also just a tournament removed from winning her first title of 2025 at the Livesport Prague Open. For added measure, Bouzkova is 13-6 on a hardcourt this year, while Haddad Maia is 2-11 on hardcourt, and 10-22 overall.
That being said, Bouzkova winning is a value bet for sure.
Value bet/ the best odds: Bouzkova winning @1.53 @WilliamHill
Ruzic – Cocciaretto: Time 00:30
H2H: 0-1
Elisabetta Cocciaretto has had a heck of a year, having risen from No. 116 in the world rankings up to No. 76, a forty-spot rise! She will be pitted against the young Croatian upstart Antonia Ruzic, who is having a solid year all the way around. Ruzic has two titles this year, but both of them were at ITF events. Cocciaretto’s 2025 title came at WTA Bastad just last month. For all her success, Cocciaretto has not performed her best on a hardcourt, and she’s just 4-7 on the surface this year.
Best Bet to Make
The books have Cocciaretto as the favorite in this match, but I am not sure I agree. She doesn’t often struggle, but it’s on a hardcourt when she does. There’s also the small matter of Ruzic being a damn good player herself, and did I mention that her best surface is a hardcourt? Yeah, she’s 80-26 overall on a hardcourt, while Cocciaretto is 54-49. Yes, Cocciaretto defeated Ruzic in the semifinals of Bastad on her way to a tournament title, but she got that match on a clay court. Clay is where Cocciaretto is strongest, and this is anything but that. Give me Ruzic in the upset.
That being said, Ruzic winning is a value bet for sure.
Value bet/ the best odds: Ruzic winning @2.10 @Betfair
Navarro – Parks: Time 03:30
H2H: 2-2
Emma Navarro and Alycia Parks will meet for only the second time. Their previous meeting took place at the Amstelveen ITF in 2021. Navarro took the match in three sets, needing a tie-break in the third to claim victory. Both Navarro and Parks are competent hardcourt players. Navarro has one title in 2025 at Mèrida in March. Parks hasn’t won a title since 2024. Navarro made the semifinals here in Monterrey last year, so she’s going to be looking to finish it out, unlike last year.
Best Bet to Make
Navarro is a pretty strong favorite, and I agree. She’s had her ups and downs this year, but Parks has struggled mightily in 2025. She should be pretty well woken up after going three sets with Ella Seidel in the second round, so it seems unlikely that Parks will catch her napping or not playing her best. Parks is extremely competent on a hardcourt, but it’s been since February that she’s shown that skillset at a level capable of beating someone like Navarro. Navarro should win in straight sets.
That being said, Navarro winning 2:0 is a value bet for sure.
