Phoenix matches daily heat record set in 2019

PHOENIX — Phoenix matched a daily heat record on Thursday that was originally set just six years ago.

The thermometer at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the National Weather Service (NWS) uses for the city’s official records, reached 114 degrees around 3:15 p.m.

The daily heat record for Aug. 21 was originally set in 2019.

What does weather the rest of the week look like for Phoenix?

Metro Phoenix is an extreme heat warning that was originally supposed to end at 8 p.m. on Friday but was extended until Sunday.

There is also a chance for monsoon storm activity.

Isaac Smith of NWS Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Wednesday morning that storm chances increased across the Phoenix area by upwards of 20-30%.

There were isolated storms in parts of the Valley last week, but Phoenix Sky Harbor still hasn’t seen measurable rainfall since July 2.
