PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Our First Alert Weather Days for extreme heat continue through the weekend, with temperatures well above the average for this time of the year. We’re expecting high temperatures of 110°F or warmer through the weekend.
We tied a heat record Friday morning with an overnight low temperature of 89 degrees. With the humidity, it was a toasty start to the day after storms and dust rolled through parts of the Valley Thursday night.
Areas like Gold Canyon, Mesa and central Phoenix picked up over half an inch of rain. Wind gusts were around 60-70 mph across parts of the Valley, leaving some with damage and others without power.
For Friday evening, there is a 20% chance for storms from the higher elevation moving toward the Valley, with slight rain and storm chances for the weekend. The best chances for monsoon activity will remain in the mountain areas over the state for the weekend.
A high pollution advisory is in effect from Friday through Sunday across the Valley for ozone. Residents are asked to carpool or use public transit.
Storm chances will increase next week, around a 30-40% chance Tuesday through Thursday. And with high pressure weakening, we will finally see cooler temperatures in the forecast. We’re looking at 106 Monday, down to 100 Tuesday and even into the 90s by Wednesday and Thursday.
We haven’t had high temperatures in the 90s since July 20. These temperatures would bring us below average to close out the month of August. Overnight lows will also come down to the lower 80s by next week.
