The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a nightmare 2024 season.

Injuries and ineffectiveness caused the ‘Niners to stumble pretty much from start to finish. They went 6-11 and finished last in the NFC West.

There’s one piece of good news that comes out of that last-place finish, though. Because of how the NFL puts together its schedule, it means San Francisco gets to face more teams who also had bad 2024 seasons.

And unlike the 49ers, some of those teams aren’t ready for an immediate bounceback.

It means that San Francisco has the easiest schedule in the league, according to ESPN’s Mike Clay.

“The 49ers are coming off a last-place finish in the NFC West, but that set them up with the league’s easiest projected 2025 schedule,” Clay writes. “They do not play any of the league’s eight Super Bowl favorites, per ESPN Bet odds (Ravens, Lions, Eagles, Bills, Chiefs, Packers, Bengals, Commanders), and have many attractive matchups against underwhelming NFC South and AFC South teams.”

The 49ers did play some of those top contenders last season, which didn’t make it easy to overcome all their injury issues.

This season, though, they’ve got Brock Purdy happy on a new contract and Christian McCaffrey healthy in the backfield.

San Francisco did lose some talented players to free agency, and they’re also dealing with wide receiver injuries. Things aren’t perfect.

They’ll also have to be on point from the outset as they face a solid divisional foe, Seattle, in Week 1.

But they’ve also got a favorable schedule once the season gets rolling in earnest, and that could be enough to jumpstart a turnaround in the Bay Area.
