While the Utah Utes landed at No. 25 in this week’s AP Top 25 football poll and the BYU Cougars were just behind them in receiving the most points among unranked teams, both squads got an interesting distinction: They both received a top 10 vote.
As noted by College Poll Tracker, the Utes were ranked No. 7 in the country by Sam McKewon of the Omaha World-Herald in Nebraska, and the Cougars were ranked No. 9 by Tom Murphy of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Little Rock.
Both teams’ next highest ranking was No. 11, with the Utes getting that from The Mercury News’ Jon Wilner and the Cougars getting it from The Roanoke Times’ Damien Sordelett and the Bryan-College Station Eagle’s Robert Cessna.

On the low end, of the 65 voters of the poll, 28 did not rank the Utes at all, while 53 did not rank the Cougars at all.
These results came on the heels of the Utes beating the UCLA Bruins 43-10 and the Cougars topping the Portland State Vikings 69-0.
The two teams will both play on Saturday, with the Utes set to face the Cal Poly Mustangs and the Cougars to play the Stanford Cardinal.
