X’s and O’s with LeRoy Butler: The Micah Parsons effect for Packers
LeRoy Butler shows how Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley used the illusion of a blitz to cause a key fourth-down stop.
GREEN BAY − The Green Bay Packers put defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. on injured reserve prior to their game against the Washington Commanders on Sept. 11.
Cox injured his groin during the Packers’ Sept. 7 season opener against the Detroit Lions and did not return to the game.
He did not take part in any of the team’s walk-throughs and was declared out in the final injury report.
Cox served as a backup with Kingsley Enagbare at end but some of Cox’s Week 1 snaps were taken by Micah Parsons in his 30-snap debut. The Packers still have four edge rushers on the 53-man roster with Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness, Parsons and Enagbare, and have Arron Mosby on their practice squad.
It’s not clear how serious Cox’s injury is. Depending on whether he needs surgery, he could be out an extended amount of time.
The Packers are allowed six more players to be designated-to-return from injured reserve after a minimum of four games missed.
Packers elevate Micah Robinson, Brant Banks from practice squad
The Packers also elevated cornerback Micah Robinson and tackle Brant Banks from the practice squad to the game day roster. It is the second of three elevations the Packers are allowed with Robinson and the first with Banks.
The Banks move comes with guard Aaron Banks (ankle) and tackle Zach Tom (hip) questionable.
