Charleston International Airport and U.S. Customs and Border Protection partnered to open South Carolina’s first Global Entry Enrollment Center, a $724,300 investment for the state.

The center will allow South Carolina residents to do their Global Entry interview without traveling to a different state. Prior to the center opening, the closest Global Entry locations were in Charlotte and Atlanta, according to a news release.

“This is a milestone for both Charleston International and the state of South Carolina,” Elliott Summey, president and CEO of Charleston International Airport, said in the release. “Our new Global Entry Enrollment Center means residents no longer have to leave the state for their interviews. It’s an investment in convenience, in customer service, and in Charleston’s role as South Carolina’s global gateway.”

The Global Entry program allows expedited clearance for pre-approved travelers when arriving in the United States to reduce wait times at customs, the release said.

The 1,230-square-foot facility will include a public waiting room, administrator’s office, three interview offices, breakroom and IT closet, according to the release.

“The demand for the Global Entry Trusted Traveler Program continues to grow,” Gregory Alveraz, CBP Atlanta director of field operations, said in the release. “This new enrollment center in Charleston reflects CBP’s commitment to improving accessibility and convenience for travelers in the Southeast region. We are proud to offer this service to help streamline international travel for our Trusted Traveler members.”
