FT: Monaco 2-2 Man City
Nedum Onuoha
Former Manchester City defender on MOTD: UEFA Champions League
The result is frustrating for City but it’s just a reminder that, playing in Europe, the game is never really out of sight and at 2-1, away from home, you always felt like they needed that third goal.
It didn’t come, and they didn’t really create as much in the second half even though Reijnders did hit the bar.
Unless they had that cushion, Monaco had belief and then it comes down to a moment that Nico Gonzalez will be disappointed with. He has lunged to try to defend the ball into the box and he is unlucky because stuff like that very rarely happens, but from when the referee has seen it and thought there was contact, he was always going to give the penalty.
At that point you are hoping your goalkeeper can step up but Dier has stepped up himself and smashed it into the corner, it was a great penalty.
You can hear more from Onuoha on MOTD: Uefa Champions League at 22:40 BST on BBC One and the BBC Sport website and app.
