Fabrizio Romano confirms POSITIVE contract talks are underway

Liverpool are almost always engaged in contracts talks of some sort.

Just last season, we were all talking about Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who were set to leave on free transfers – only the latter departed, as the other two re-signed.

Since then, Ibrahima Konate‘s impending situation has dominated the news around the club, and even though Liverpool started talks with him 12 months ago, we’re still none the wise to his future.

However, while that’s continuing in the background, the Reds are said to be considering discussions with two more stars over new deals, hoping to get ahead of the curve and tie them down early.

Szoboszlai and Gravenberch are next

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are talking to Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch‘s agents ahead of starting talks for new contracts. They’re seen as invaluable assets to Arne Slot.

On his Here We Go podcast, he said: “Ryan Gravenberch is probably one of the most positive players in terms of [his] performances at the beginning of the season and Liverpool are very happy with him.

“Out of contract in 2028 after he joined from Bayern [Munich] a few years ago and what I can tell you is that Liverpool are preparing discussions with his agent over a new contract. It’s not something advanced at this stage, so Liverpool have not prepared a new contract agreement with Gravenberch, but the idea internally at the club is to have a conversation with the player, to starting talking ASAP.

“Also Dominik Szoboszlai is out of contract in 2028 and Liverpool are also thinking about the possibility to discuss with his agents over a new deal… so that’s Gravenberch and Szoboszlai.”

It must be said that Fabrizio emphasises that such activity behind the scenes on the Dutchman and the Hungarian is likely to happen in the coming months, but it’s really promising news regardless.

With two and a half seasons to go before their current deals expire, it’s clear that Liverpool are so convinced by their efforts that it’s simply not worth waiting until closer to the time. In the minds of fans, they’re probably two of the most untouchable assets in the squad. This update reflects that.

Szoboszlai is currently on £120,000 a week, which could be bumped up to £150,000 which Alexis Mac Allister currently earns, while Gravenberch is already earning that figure, so the prospect of a pay-rise might have to come in terms of bonuses rather than his base rate.

In terms of length, the Reds might look to see them agree to an addition two years, taking their deals to 2030, which would be in-line with new signings Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.

Others currently set to have their deals expire in 2028 are Federico Chiesa and Mac Allister – big calls are still to be made on their futures at the club. Before then, however, the remaining man-power will need to go towards Konate and potentially even Andy Robertson if he wants to renew with us.
