Dominic Fikes Makes a Return With Three Tracks From ‘Rocket’

Dominic Fike is a Floridian singer and rapper who became known for his song ‘3 Nights’ which scored him a multi-million record deal.

At the beginning of August, he played the Lollapalooza festival, and at the end of his set, he walked out with a baby, his son Rocket. Less than two weeks later, he announced a new mixtape dedicated to Rocket. It’s set to come out less than a week after the announcement, on 22 August, with three tracks from the album already live.

The first song is called ‘All Hands on Deck’, and Dominic first performed it at Lollapalooza, singing it to his son on a toy microphone, a video of which he later posted on YouTube. The track seems to be formed of his thoughts about modern life and its corruptions, with lyrics like “You better come up with sum’ / Some type of fund, some type of trust / But don’t nobody trust nobody, so what the fuck?”

The next track is ‘Aftermath-Edit’, which is more upbeat with a stable rhythm. It starts lighter and incorporates sarcastic laughs, which give an ironic effect. The song becomes more emotional as he tells: “With everybody on your back / Tryna tell you how to act / So you dress the part” and mentions running from arguments and crying.

The so-called mixtape preview ends with ‘Smile’, a positive song, as Dominic sings about putting a smile on in the morning and being happy because he knows it all leads back to someone special to him. The song ends with him saying that even while he misses that person, the love simply makes him smile, rather than feeling weighed down by the emotional distance.

So, some may say that Rocket will be the album of the summer, even though it’s coming out at the end of it, and only Dominic Fike could pull that off.
