Lufthansa has welcomed its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner equipped with its award-winning Allegris cabin, with its first long-haul flights set to take off next month.
The German flag carrier’s first Allegris-equipped Dreamliner touched down at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) on Saturday, August 30, after flying in from Seattle. The aircraft is the first of its type to feature Lufthansa’s highly regarded and long-awaited Allegris interior, with the cabin previously only available on select Airbus A350 services in and out of Munich Airport (MUN).
Fleet Expansion Plans
This new aircraft is the first of at least ten that Lufthansa expects to add to its fleet by the end of 2025, which would require it to take delivery of a new aircraft every two weeks or so until the end of the year.

In total, the German airline has ordered 29 Dreamliners and hopes to include up to 78 in its fleet within the next few years.
Inside the Allegris Cabin
The Allegris cabins on Lufthansa’s 787-9 aircraft feature three classes of cabin and have a total capacity of 287 passengers. This includes 28 Business Class Suites, 28 Premium Economy seats, and the remaining 231 seats in Economy Class.
However, passengers can currently only book the four front-row Business Class Suites, and the rest will remain empty until they receive the necessary regulatory approval, which is expected to happen by the end of this year.

Passengers in the Business Class suites can enjoy enhanced comfort and privacy with a range of features, such as chest-high walls, 27-inch monitors, generous storage space, a personal wardrobe, and a minibar. Guests in Economy and Premium Economy can also enjoy enhanced features such as expanded legroom, leg rests, and larger 4K seatback screens.
Route Launch
The new aircraft also promises to reduce Lufthansa’s and its passengers’ carbon footprint. According to Lufthansa, the Dreamliner consumes just 2.5 liters of kerosene per passenger every 100 kilometers on average, making it around 25 percent more fuel-efficient than its predecessor, the Boeing 767.

Lufthansa’s Allegris-equipped Dreamliners will begin operating in October on the airline’s route between Frankfurt and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), with more routes set to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
